#89, Out of Character: What wasn't?

Originally posted here on September 9, 2022.

Oh, I have some responses to this prompt:
Is there anything about your fictomere or that your fictomere did in canon that feels "out of character" for you?

I have things to say, indeed. Content warning for mentions of murder, torture, and betrayal, but nothing detailed.

Canon paints me as far more brutal and ruthless than I am. In fairness, I am no basket of roses, and the canon of Vampire: the Masquerade can be quite dark, but it still frequently feels... over-the-top, to read about. For one, canon insists that I killed Ponticulus during a ritual when he began to falter and make it go wrong--as if! To kill my own friend like that, for no reason... Ridiculous. I would never. It's also quite insistent that I was aware of the fact that one of my vampiric childer had been kidnapped and tortured for decades--and that I found her, and, disappointed in her inability to avoid capture, left her there to be tortured for centuries more. Good God. I have done "bad" or perhaps even "evil" things--but it was always for a reason, to work towards a goal. Inflicting needless suffering, pain, and death has never been my style nor my desire, but canon insists that I am, at heart, a monster, one who wants to see the world and everyone in it burn from atop his crumbling, burning throne.

There are other moments, too, but those are the first two that spring to mind, and two of the most infuriating. My reputation is bad enough; I don't need help in being reviled by the masses.
